For the right education, 'think Cambridge'
30 May 2008
Sri Lankan parents increasingly consider the importance of internationally recognised qualifications when choosing the right education for their children.
University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) is hosting a number of events in June to provide a unique opportunity for both parents, and teaching professionals, to learn more about the benefits of a Cambridge education. Demand for high-quality, internationally recognised qualifications, continues to grow in Sri Lanka, and CIE is working closely with the British Council, schools, and educational experts on the island to ensure students are successfully prepared for higher education and employment. Cambridge is proud of its long association with schools in South Asia, which dates back over a hundred years.
The events will focus on the particular benefits of a Cambridge education for 14-16 year olds, outlining how Cambridge O Levels encourage students to think critically and independently, to develop a strong foundation of skills for further study or application in a work environment. Each year CIE has over 610,000 entries for O Levels, from countries around the world, and CIE is dedicated to increasing resources in Sri Lanka as demand continues to grow.
Regional Representative, Nirmali Hettiarachchi, comments: "Although Cambridge O Levels have been available for 50 years we continually assess and revise our international curriculum to keep pace with the latest thinking and current issues. Cambridge O Level qualifications are not only an internationally recognised gold standard, but are also relevant, fit-for-purpose and interesting courses that students enjoy undertaking."
Kumari Perera, Principal of Alethea International School, said: "High quality education is of the utmost importance to Alethea. CIE's close association with the University of Cambridge means our school benefits directly from this world-class academic expertise and heritage. The syllabus is so well structured that it helps us to create students who are able think out of the box. We are proud to be part of the Cambridge community of schools."
